Tissue paper stained glass

This is a super cheap and super easy craft to do with kids... enjoy

  • Tissue paper (at least two colours)
  • Baking paper or grease proof paper
  • A glue stick
  • Pva / wood glue
  • A paint brush
  • And your kids :)
Tear or Cut your tissue paper into a small pieces and put into a container, C thought it was more fun to tear it up but sometimes its just easier if you have it pre-done for the kids so they can get straight into the messy stuff
As you can see we used pink and white (because that's what C had in her craft box)

Now take a piece of the baking/grease proof paper and draw your design on the back side, or you can draw or print a design on a piece of regular paper and place it under the baking/grease proof paper, I traced the foot of each of my daughters, or for younger kids (like C) just leave the page blank
I find the next steps much easier if you tape your project to the table

Begin to stick the tissue paper to the baking/grease proof paper using the glue stick, fill in pieces of your design with different colours, i'm doing each footprint pink with a white background (top right picture) or just a random pattern like C is doing it doesn't really matter just have fun making a pretty picture

When you have filled up the page like this you are ready for C's favorite part

drizzle enough PVA/wood glue over your page to give it decent coverage, spread the glue with the paintbrush to make a nice even layer, like I said C's favorite step :p

you should have something that looks a bit like the picture on the left.
Now just put it somewhere safe to dry, you will know when its dry because PVA/wood glue dries clear like in the picture on the right (We left ours to dry over night, but it usually only takes a couple of hours it really depends on the temperature...)

Now that the glue is all dry you can peel the tissue paper from the baking/grease proof paper (it's very easy even a 2 year old could do it hehe)
Give it a trim to neaten it all up and you have a...

Now that the super cute tissue paper "stained glass" windows are made what can we do with them?

C and I just cut out basic frames from white paper and taped them together, I love the way the feet look, you can see how a picture might turn out if you used a design when sticking the tissue paper down but the random pattern is really easy for little kids to enjoy making and totally cute!!

These little cards make great gifts for the grand parents and its even more fun for the kids to use the pretty paper they made to do another craft project

I love hanging C's art work on the fridge, I cleared it off at the beginning of the year so now it looks so bare...I'm sure it wont take long to cover again :)

I hope you enjoy making these as much as we did !
